The last couple days here in Seadrift has been a strange bite. Our bigger fish have either scattered with the rise in tide or recovering from a spawn. I know it’s early in the year for that, but we have caught 100’s of small male trout the last two days, it’s the only explanation I can figure out. We are still catching a lot of keeper size fish mixed in with the smalls, and plastics have worked better than Corkys or topwaters. Curious to see what happens later in the week if

Despite dodging a few much needed rain showers, the topwater bite was great. Both trout and reds crushed it walking over knee to thigh deep sand pockets. Once the wind laid between storms we, switched to DSL strawberry wine and Mirrodines. Slow and steady won the race today in these post spawn conditions. The boys grinded through 100s of small male trout to find their keeper fish. It was kind of a good teaching tool for the newcomers to lure fishing. They learned quick and understood how the trout wanted it presented. We fished a wide range of depths over sand/grass, as well as some oyster shell . Our best baits today were DSL’s Strawberry Wine, Kickin’ Chicken, and Victorious Secret. Capt. Nathan Beabo

According to Port Isabel guide Capt Gencho Buitureira Jr, fishing in the Lower Laguna Madre has been hot as of late. Gencho says his clients have been boating a variety of species, including flounder, black drum, redfish, speckled trout and snook. Great day one with this North Texas family. Took us a bit to find a consistant bite, and when we did it was all smiles. Crotch to waist deep grass beds with rafts of bait, throwing DSL’s Victorious Secret and Strawberry Wine did the trick. The North wind was giving us trouble on day two, not many bites on the trout. Fishing in the Lower Laguna Madre has been on fire since Memorial Day Weekend. Anglers are racking up easy limits of both speckled trout and redfish. Several jumbo-sized specks have been reported as well. Additionally, tarpon and snook fishing has been going strong. Fishing has been good in the Lower Laguna Madre over the past week. Anglers have been catching lots of solid speckled trout -- including some top end fish in the 28-30 inch range. Bull reds are good at the jetties and slot reds are all over the flats, as are black drum. Tarpon fishing has been phenomenal at the jetties and the snook bite has been outstanding. Fun last couple of days. We tried many different areas from shell to shorelines. Each spot produced a good handful of fish, but by mid-day the bite fell off. This is to be expected this time of the year, with winds that die and the water temps rising. Today when it went slick we found 4 small pods of reds to keep us busy.
